Our lab members showcased some of their research while also giving lab tours to see the blow fly rearing rooms, the black soldier fly enclosure and the dermestid beetles. To finish off the night we joined the scouts in a fun maggot art activity, which the children (and Adults) absolutely loved! You might be asking yourself "What is Maggot Art?" , below is a brief description!
Maggot art is performed by applying fly larvae into paint and allowing the maggots to squirm around on a canvas, thus creating abstract art! The maggots used in this project were reared from eggs in our blow fly rearing room and grown to their largest form (3rd instar larvae).
